Fibromyalgia life insurance
If you live with fibromyalgia, you're probably used to being doubted, by systems, by forms, sometimes by people who should know better. So let's start with something most people never hear: life insurance with fibromyalgia is genuinely achievable, and for many people the terms are better than they'd ever have guessed.

Taken seriously, for once
First, the medical point, because it matters to how you are underwritten. Fibromyalgia is not a form of arthritis. It is a chronic widespread pain condition that affects how the body processes pain signals, and it does not damage the joints the way rheumatoid or psoriatic arthritis can. It often sits alongside an arthritis diagnosis, which is why insurers ask about both, but it is assessed as its own condition.
Fibromyalgia doesn't show up on a blood test, and generic application systems don't handle it well. What insurers actually assess is the effect: how your symptoms run, how they affect your work and daily life, what treatment you're on, and your wider health. Someone working, managing their symptoms, and stable on their treatment is a real and placeable application, whatever the internet told you.
One thing we'll always be straight about: income protection is the difficult product for fibromyalgia. Policies often exclude claims related to the condition, and some insurers won't offer it at all. We will never sell you a policy while hiding what it won't do. Life cover, on the other hand, is a much more open door.
What insurers look at with fibromyalgia
- How long you've had the diagnosis and how your symptoms run
- How it affects your work and daily life
- Your treatment, from pain management to medications like amitriptyline, duloxetine or pregabalin
- Time off work related to the condition
- Your wider health and wellbeing, which insurers ask about alongside fibromyalgia
- Smoking and general lifestyle
How it works
A quick, private health check online. A call with a specialist adviser who takes fibromyalgia seriously. Then we approach the right insurers, handle the paperwork, and keep you updated. Straightforward cases can often proceed without a GP report.
